Less than you think

Feed once or twice a day, only what the fish finish in about two minutes. A fish's stomach is tiny — most aquarium fish are overfed, not underfed.

Overfeeding fouls water

Uneaten food rots, spiking ammonia and feeding algae and pest snails. If you see leftover food on the substrate, you fed too much.

Variety and fasting

Mix quality flakes or pellets with occasional frozen or live foods. A weekly fasting day is healthy and helps prevent bloat in many species.
